Gee, Summer must be slowly coming to an end!
We went to Claytor Lake in southwest Virginia today and pretty much had it to ourselves. In fact, except for the marina staff, we and our blue heeler, Blue, were pretty much alone.
But, with a light breeze nudging the cool air around, it wasn’t a bad day at all. We did enjoy the peace and quiet of just sitting at the marina and reading.
Don does have a soft spot for the lake which was built to generate electricity by the power company he retired from and he used to visit the lake frequently. He remembers one trip in particular. While staying in a lake shore cabin at the State Park, he overheard a park employee tell a visitor that “the lake was built by the electric company. They used to generate power at the dam, but they don’t do that any more. I don’t know why.”
Well, they did still generate power there and almost immediately after his return to the office, the company began a formal program of offering dam tours to state park employees in an effort to get more accurate information to visitors.
